Orientate going to Gainesway

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Orientate has retired from the racetrack to begin his stud career at Graham Beck's Gainesway in Lexington. Gainesway will stand the 4-year-old Mt. Livermore colt for a $25,000 fee.

Orientate will stand as the property of Gainesway and Arrowfield Stud, an Australian stallion operation owned by John Messara. Orientate will shuttle to the Southern Hemisphere in 2003, but his fee there hasn't been announced yet.

Bob and Beverly Lewis campaigned Orientate, who leaves the track with a career record of 19-10-3-0 and total earnings of $1,716,950. In addition to his Breeders' Cup Sprint victory, Orientate this year also won the Grade 1 Forego Handicap, Grade 2 Commonwealth Breeders' Cup Stakes, Grade 2 A.G. Vanderbilt Handicap, Grade 3 Aristides Handicap, and Grade 3 Smile Sprint Handicap. D. Wayne Lukas trained Orientate.

Orientate is out of the stakes-winning Cox's Ridge mare Dream Team, who also is the dam of Grade 3-placed Olympic Cat.
