Opening day: 3 group races

Goodwood opens its prestigious five-day "Glorious" meeting on Tuesday with one Group 2 and and two Group 3 races on the card.

Autumn Glory and Court Masterpeice, the first two home in the Group 3 Silver Trophy at one mile at Lingfield Park on July 9, are expected to duke it out in the Group 2 Lennox Stakes at seven furlongs. The Ed Dunlop-trained Court Masterpiece is taken to turn the tables, as he is a two-time listed winner at Goodwood, albeit going a mile.

The Group 3 Gordon Stakes at 1 1/2 miles, a traditional prep for the classic St. Leger Stakes at Doncaster on Sept. 10, features Irish Derby fourth Brahminy Kite, Epsom Derby also-rans The Geezer and Unfurled, and Royal Ascot's two-mile Group 3 Queen's Vase winner Melrose Avenue, who just may be clever enough to handle the cut back in distance for trainer Mark Johnston.

The five-furlong Group 3 Molecomb Stakes for 2-year-olds attracted 23 entries at the five-day stage, with Royal Ascot's Group 3 Norfolk Stakes winner Masta Plasta the most prominent among them. Ooh Aah Camara, disqualified from her seventh-place finish at Royal Ascot in the Group 3 Albany Stakes for a butazolidine positive, tries again in a wide-open contest.

The action at Goodwood picks up on Wednesday when the 5-year-old mare Soviet Song is Ladbrokes's 11-10 choice to successfully defend her one-mile Group 1 Sussex Stakes title from the fast-improving Proclamation, 11-4.
