Open Promise favored at Louisiana Downs

Open Promise will be a short price to win her 12th career race Friday when she starts in the featured first race at Louisiana Downs. A five-furlong turf allowance, Open Promise will be switching back to the grass after winning a six-furlong optional claimer on dirt. For her effort in that race, she earned a career-best 104 Beyer Speed Figure.

Since that June 6 race, Open Promise has worked a half-mile in 48.80 seconds. She figures to be prominent from the start for Gerard Melancon, who has the mount for leading trainer Cole Norman. Open Promise races for Ken Murphy Thoroughbreds.

Her chief rival could be Full Time Dancer, who cuts back to one turn after racing around two last out in the $75,000 Irving Distaff at Lone Star. She finished fifth in that race behind winner Janeian. To sharpen Full Time Dancer for the cutback in distance, trainer Gerald Romero worked her four furlongs in a bullet 47 seconds June 17.
