Ookashada captures Jack Diamond Futurity

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Ookashada led every step of the way to win the $106,277 Jack Diamond Futurity at Hastings Sunday.

Breaking alertly under Pedro Alvarado, Ookashado carved out quick fractions of 21.92, 44.98 and then drew away in the stretch to win by a widening six-lengths. Final time for the 6 1-2 furlongs was 1:17.32. Ookashada is trained by Toni Cloutier.

"He's really progressed," said Alvarado. "He was a bit crazy when I first got on him but Toni has done a great job of bringing him along."

Ookashada was the second choice in the wagering and paid $7.80 for the win. The second longest priced horse in the race, Born to Be Bad made a late move to get up for second. Mr. Saturday Dance rounded out the triactor that paid $2,220.90.

Nechako, who was the odds-on favorite, stalked the pace but tired to finish sixth.

Ookashad earned $64,232 for his owners Pm Racing and TD Stable.
