Ookashada back to route

Email

ANCOUVER, British Columbia - Ookashada figures to be a solid favorite in the feature race at Hastings on Sunday. The 1 1/16-mile allowance race is for 3-year-olds and up who haven't won a stakes in 2008 and goes as the ninth race.

A multiple stakes winner with $366,125 in earnings, Ookashada is coming off a fourth-place finish in the six-furlong Express Stakes on Sept. 21. He should appreciate both the move to a distance at which he has won four races and the class relief. His most recent win was on July 20, when he won a $50,000 optional race by a nose over Enforcement.

Trained by Toni Cloutier, Ookashada is versatile, and leading rider Mario Gutierrez will have some options depending on how the race shapes up.

There is a good chance an honest pace will develop. Both the Visualiser and Arthurlooksgood have speed.

Arthurlooksgood is also a stakes winner, but he is winless this year. He held on to finish second in the Alberta Breeders Handicap at Northlands Park on Sept. 27. He won the Alberta Breeders last year as well as the Wheat City at his home track, Assiniboia Downs.

In his only start at Hastings, he finished third in an allowance race won by Trick of the North in 2006.

The Visualiser, who is trained by Dino Condilenios, does not have any stakes wins on his resume, but he did finish second in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby in 2006. The Visualiser has won at the distance, but lately he has been a better horse sprinting. His lone win this year came in a $35,000 optional sprint, and in his last two starts he has finished second in similar races.
