Ontheqt wins muddy Star Shoot Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Wet-track specialist Ontheqt upset previously unbeaten Nashinda over a muddy track in Sunday's $182,375 Star Shoot Stakes, a six-furlong dash for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

Ontheqt had 4-5 favorite Nashinda pinned along the rail while setting splits of :22.52 and :45.73 under Jim McAleney. She fought tooth and nail with Nashinda throughout the stretch while maintaining a slim lead, and prevailed by a nose in a final time of 1:11.72.

"We had a perfect trip," said McAleney. "Nashinda ran a huge race down on the inside, and made it difficult for us to win."

Ontheqt, who won the Fanfreluche Stakes over a sloppy track in November, earned $110,325 for co-owners Janis Maine and trainer Reade Baker.

Longshot Dana's Lucky Lady finished six lengths in arrears in third in the five-horse field.
