One World dead-heats with Rocket Man in Sprint

Trainer John Moore and jockey Darren Beadman scored a Group 2 stakes double Sunday at Sha Tin in Hong Kong.

In the $387,000 Jockey Club Sprint, Beadman rode 14-1 outsider One World to a dead-heat win with Singapore’s star sprinter Rocket Man. Both horses ran the six furlongs in 1:08.82 while prepping for the Hong Kong Sprint on Dec. 12.

Earlier on the card, Beadman guided 7-5 favorite Able One to a three-quarter length, wire-to-wire victory in the $387,000 Jockey Club Mile.

Rocket Man, sent off at 17-1, was spotting five pounds to One World, a 6-year-old who was winless in 16 previous starts at the group level. One World did finish second to Sacred Kingdom in last year’s Hong Kong Sprint.

Sacred Kingdom finished fifth of 12 on Sunday.

Based in Singapore with trainer Patrick Shaw, Rocket Man was ridden for the first time by Felix Coetzee. Rocket Man is best known for finishing second in the Dubai Golden Shaheen in March.

In the Mile, Able One defeated Thumbs Up while covering the distance in 1:34.37. Thumbs Up had beaten Able One by three-quarters of a length last time out in the Group 3 Sha Tin Trophy. Sunday’s race was a prep for next month’s Hong Kong Mile.
