ETOBICOKE, Ontario - One for Rose defeated Winning Chance for the sixth time in their six meetings Sunday at Woodbine while capturing the $175,750 Ontario Matron Handicap.

One for Rose pressed front-running Handpainted through unhurried splits of :24.13 seconds and :48.31 in the mile and a sixteenth race for fillies and mares. One for Rose hit the front midway on the far turn, and held Winning Chance at bay through the stretch to score by a length and a half under Emile Ramsammy.

Handpainted ended up four lengths behind the winner in third, and Miss Santa Anita completed the order of finish. The final time was 1:44.22 seconds.

"She was running easily in second," said Sid Attard, who trains One for Rose. "The fractions were slow, and I thought she'd be tough from there on."

One for Rose and favored Winning Chance both went off at just over even-money. One for Rose paid $4.10, and earned $114,187 for Tucci Stable.

* Ramsammy also won Sunday's other stakes, the $108,000 Zadracarta, aboard Heyahohowdy ($9.90). Heyahohowdy rallied to take the six-furlong turf dash for 3-year-old fillies by a length and a quarter over longshot Whistling Maid.
