Once again, Anderson has 'em surrounded

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - For the fifth time this season, trainer Carl Anderson heads into a stakes race with multiple entrants as he saddles three in Saturday's $40,000 Manitoba Maturity here at Assiniboia Downs. The Manitoba Maturity, a 1 1/16-mile race for Manitoba-bred 4-year-olds, drew a field of eight.

Anderson, who finished first and second in last year's Maturity with Albarino and Simply Regal, sends out the geldings Resurgent and Brinello and the filly Gold With Honor.

Resurgent began the year by winning a five-furlong allowance. He then finished fifth in a third-level allowance before a sixth-place finish in the Free Press last time out. Last season Resurgent won two restricted stakes, the Manitoba and J.W. Sifton.

Brinello has faced first-level allowance company three times this year, finishing fourth in his first two efforts and last of 10 in his most recent race on June 18. Last season Brinello finished fourth in the Manitoba and second in the J.W. Sifton.

Gold With Honor has run twice against first-level allowance company this season, finishing fourth the first time and seventh in her most recent effort on June 24. Gold With Honor finished second in the restricted Distaff Stakes last season.

Snowy Old Man should provide the toughest opposition to the Anderson trio.

Trained by Jack Robertson, Snowy Old Man defeated first-level allowance company to begin the season and has been well beaten in three subsequent starts, all versus second-level allowance company.

Your Excellence has failed to hit the board in four starts against first-level allowance company this year.

Whiskey Drive defeated nonwinners-of-three claimers in his last start and will make his first start on Saturday for trainer Sylvester Oliverre.
