Old Friends holding Hall of Fame day

Email

Old Friends, the equine retirement facility in Georgetown, Ky., will host a “Hall of Fame Day at Old Friends” on Oct. 17, starting with a 3 p.m. memorial observance for Hall of Famers Skip Away, Noor, and Precisionist, who are buried in the Old Friends Hall of Fame cemetery.

The event has received the support of the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, which has designated Old Friends’s cemetery as an official resting place for Hall of Fame horses whose grave sites could be at risk of being forgotten because of development or neglect. The museum and Hall of Fame also has said it will provide additional Hall of Fame plaques for Skip Away, Noor, and Precisionist’s grave markers at Old Friends.

Nick Ryan’s Saloon in Lexington also will host an evening barbecue buffet to cap the Hall of Fame Day events, which also will include tours of the Old Friends Farm and visits with the farm’s retired racehorses and pensioned breeding stock.

Tickets to the Nick Ryan’s Saloon dinner – which also features live music, drinks, and attendance by special guests – cost $50 and are available by reservation at (502) 863-1775.

Old Friends is located at 1841 Paynes Depot Road in Georgetown, Ky.
