Old Forester earns bonus as Ontario's top sire of 2011

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Old Forester, with North American progeny earnings of $3,106,650, has been granted a $50,000 award as Ontario’s top sire of 2011.

The year-end awards, administered by the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s Ontario division through the Thoroughbred Improvement program, were announced on Thursday in a press release.

Old Forester, a son of Forestry, sired 41 winners from 81 runners, including stakes winners Citius, Jenna’s Wabbit, Kitty’s Got Class, and Weekend Romance.

The $30,000 second-place award went to Bold Executive while Philanthropist collected third money of $20,000.

Bold Executive, who died last year at age 27, had 50 winners in 2011 from 144 runners and progeny earnings of $2,868,169. His top runners included stakes winners Sand Cove and Sans Sousi.

Philanthropist’s top performers were stakes winners Pender Harbour, Bear It’s Time, Grace Phil, and Run in Aruba. His 41 runners collected 17 wins and earnings of $2,867,594.

Vibank also received a $50,000 award as Ontario’s top first-crop stallion. His 13 runners won three races and $245,841.
