Ohio Star brings top Beyer to Tah Dah


Ohio Star will be looking for her maiden win in the $50,000 Kevin Goemmer Tah Dah at River Downs on Sunday. Trained by Bill Connelly, Ohio Star will be making her second start. In her debut July 8 at Arlington Park, the 2-year-old daughter of Pioneering ran third, beaten five lengths, in a 4 1/2-furlong maiden-claiming event. Ohio Star bled in the race and will be on Lasix for the first time in the Tah Dah.

Ohio Star earned a 63 Beyer Speed Figure in her debut, a full 20 points better than any of her nine 2-year-old rivals. Casey Chavez will ride for the first time in the 5 1/2-furlong Tah Dah.

Country Club Sue is one of three fillies to come into the Tah Dah off a maiden win. Now trained by Doug Cowans, Country Club Sue won her debut here June 30 for trainer Bill Napier. She won that race by 4 1/4 lengths as the 3-2 favorite. Rodney Prescott will ride.

Noneofyourbeeswax also won at first asking here May 31 for trainer Mike Rone. She came from off the early pace to win by 4 3/4 lengths in the five-furlong event. That running style should suit her well in this speed-laden field. Perry Ouzts retains the mount.

The others in the field are Saphira Bluestone, Domineering, Golden Ann, Cowgirls Rule, Guilded Reward, Brain Trust, and Fiesty Flirty.
