By John McDulin

At its Wednesday meeting, the Ohio State Racing Commission delayed a decision on whether to let River Downs run its 2013 live meet at Beulah Park. The commission is expected to rule on the matter at its meeting next Wednesday, March 27.
River Downs, which is owned by Pinnacle Gaming, and Beulah Park, which is owned by Penn National Gaming, have an agreement in place for River Downs to run its 2013 racing dates at Beulah Park but need commission approval to do so.
The grandstand at River Downs has been demolished and construction on a new racino is expected to begin in the near future. The River Downs racino is scheduled to be completed in early 2014.
“There is a law that needs to be changed to allow the meet to be held at Beulah Park,” said Dave Basler, the executive director of the Ohio Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association. “The bill came out of conference committee last night [Tuesday] and is expected to be passed by the House of Representatives in the next few days and then by the Senate before next Tuesday.

MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
