Ogataul offers betting opportunity

A wide-open field of 10 older Nebraska-breds should provide an excellent wagering opportunity in the $25,000 Ogataul Stakes at six furlongs at Fonner Park on Saturday.

Bevys Best, one of three 4-year-olds in this race, won 4 of his 6 starts last year, including the Hall of Fame and the Columbus Breeders' Special at Columbus. He defeated older entry-level allowance foes at Lincoln prior to those stakes wins, and he should be well regarded in the betting on Saturday, his first start of the year. Larren Delorme will ride from post 7.

Heso and Show My Dancer are the other 4-year-olds in the race. Show My Dancer was a late-running third in second-level allowance company at Fonner on March 1 and was stakes placed a year ago.

Heso, winner of the Fonner Park Special and State Fair Breeders' Stakes last year, makes his season debut.

Blumin Attitude, a 5-year-old, has been off since July when he won the Who Doctor Who Handicap a Horsemen's Park. Even with the early layup, he won 5 races from 9 starts last year, including the State Fair Board and Big Red Mile stakes at Lincoln. Trainer Jim Cranwell sent him out for a strong five-furlong work in 1:01.80 last Saturday, and he should be ready for a good effort. He breaks from post 3 with Damon Leeds aboard.

Skwhirl had his lone victory last year in the Amadevil Stakes at Columbus, but he is consistent and has a strong late run. He would benefit from a hotly contested pace and could be poised for an upset. He has drawn post 8 with Luis Ranilla set to ride.
