Ocala sale's high end rebounds

EmailThe upper market fared better Thursday at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's fall mixed sale in Ocala, Fla., one day after producing a $40,000 session-topper at its first open session. Thursday's second open session sold five horses above that price, including the $80,000 session-topping El Corredor weanling colt. The session also posted big gains in gross, average, and median figures.

Buttonwood Bloodstock, agent, purchased the El Corredor colt from agent Peggy Dellheim. The colt is the first foal out of the Gilded Time mare Ashlee's Lady. A Florida-bred, he is from the family of Grade 1 winner Healthy Addiction.

The session sold 137 horses for $1,017,400, well up from last year's $621,600 for 128 horses. The average price climbed 53 percent, from $4,856 to $7,426. The median increased 60 percent, from last year's figure of $2,500 to $4,000 this year.

The sale was to continue through Friday.
