Ocala sale show sees colt run eighth-mile in 9.8 seocnds

One colt shaded 10 seconds Friday as the fastest eighth-mile worker at the first Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company under-tack preview. The two public breeze shows preview next week’s OBS March select juvenile sale. They had been scheduled for Thursday and Friday but were delayed by one day because of bad weather.

The first under-tack session on Friday saw Hip No. 137, a Scat Daddy-Madagascat colt, powered through an eighth in 9.80 seconds as the only juvenile to breeze the distance in under 10 seconds.

Seven 2-year-olds covered an eighth-mile in 10 seconds. They were Hip No. 16, an Indian Charlie-Eva’s Melody colt; Hip No. 50, a Fusaichi Pegasus-Glister Girl colt; Hip No. 82, a Mizzen Mast-Im Cruising Dixie colt; Hip No. 148, a More Than Ready-Marwood filly; Hip No. 184, an Exclusive Quality-On the Podium filly; Hip No. 221, a City Zip-Really Ameadowstar filly; and Hip No. 226, a Street Sense-Regally Appealing colt.

Two juveniles posted the opening session’s fastest quarter-mile time of 21.2 seconds. They were Hip No. 56, a daughter of first-crop sire Latent Heat out of Great Deep Bay; and Hip No. 182, a Forest Wildcat filly out of Nyanza.

The second and final under-tack session, spotlighting Hip Nos. 245-490, was to take place on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. The auction runs March 15-16, with sessions beginning daily at 11 a.m.
