OBS Spring under-tack show: Shackleford colt breezes in :20 2/5 seconds

Email

A Shackleford colt assumed sole possession of the fastest time at two furlongs on Thursday during the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. spring 2-year-olds in training sale under-tack show when he covered the distance in :20 2/5 seconds. It was the fourth of six under-tack shows for the sale next week.

It was the first time a horse has covered a quarter-mile in that time at the OBS spring sale since a Hear No Evil filly did it in 2013. Conquest Stables eventually bought that filly for $370,000. Two horses achieved that time during this year's OBS March sale.

The Shackleford colt is Hip 790, Chief Ruling, who is from the first crop of Shackleford out of the winning In Excess mare Expressive Diva. The colt is consigned by Wavertree Stables, agent, and is from the family of Canadian champion Christy's Mount, Argentine champion Tangaroa, Grade 1 winner Ringaskiddy, Grade/Group 2-placed Lamparina, Time Limit, and Miss Indy Anna, and Group 1-placed sire Not Phone.

Four horses on Thursday tied for the co-fastest time of :9 4/5 seconds over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface, bringing the overall total up to 12 after the fourth of six sessions. Following is information on the pedigree of the four that worked in :9 4/5.

– Hip 631, a Tiz Wonderful filly out of the stakes-winning Marquetry mare Christmas Lily, who is the dam of two winners from three foals to race. Further down the page is Grade 2 winner Bold Style and Grade 3 winner Marianna's Girl. King's Equine consigns the filly as agent.

– Hip No. 692, a War Front filly out of the winning Unbridled's Song mare Dawn Chorus, whose first foal to race is a winner. She is from the family of champion Countess Diana, and Grade 3-placed stakes winner Dawn Princess. Eddie Woods consigns the filly, as agent.

– Hip 789, Awesome Express, an Awesome of Course filly out of the winning Private Express mare Express Fashion. The dam has produced eight winners from nine runners, including Grade 2 winner Express Tour, stakes winner Kitty Cat Express, and stakes producer Express Angel. The Florida-bred's extended family includes stakes winners Schatzi Pie and English Toffee. Eisaman Equine is the consignor, as agent.

– Hip 798, Sweet Deal, a filly from the first crop by Overdriven out of the winning Distant View mare Far Sighted Sal, whose five foals to race are all winners, including the stakes-placed Ocean Princess. Queen's Plate winner Shaman Ghost is in the Florida-bred's extended family, as is Grade 3 winner Deputy G. She is consigned by Sugar Hill, agent.
