OBS sale shows gains after Congrats mare tops second session

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Leading freshman sire Congrats played a role in a second consecutive session-topper Wednesday as the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company closed out its two-day winter mixed auction in Ocala, Fla., with more gains.

A $47,000 broodmare carrying a Congrats foal brought Wednesday’s top price. On Tuesday, a Congrats yearling colt brought the auction’s top price of $100,000. Both sessions enjoyed large gains over last year’s figures.

A day after Tuesday’s opening consignor-preferred session saw gains of 55 percent in gross, 27 percent in average, and 76 percent in median, the open session Wednesday posted equally impressive rises, as compared to last year’s equivalent day. The open session sold 191 horses for $916,600, a 26 percent increase, while average rose 28 percent to $4,799. Median jumped 50 percent to $3,000. The buyback rate remained the same at 32 percent.

Michael Sucher bought Wednesday’s session-topping mare, an unraced daughter of Forest Camp named Trisha. Barbara and Francis Vanlangendonck’s Summerfield agency was the consignor.
The sale-topper sold Tuesday was a $100,000 yearling Congrats colt that a buyer identified only as FHMB purchased from agent Andy Cant. The colt is out of Toasttofriendship, a winning daughter of Salt Lake.
