OBS sale figures down again Wednesday

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A $95,000 colt by Spanish Steps topped Wednesday's third session at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's August yearling sale, but once again the auction saw declines in gross, average, and median.

The session sold 226 horses for $2,036,000, down 19 percent from last year's third day, when 193 horses sold. Average fell 30 percent, from $12,946 to $9,009, and median dropped 27 percent, from $7,500 to $5,500. The buyback percentage rose only slightly, from 27.7 percent last year to 28 percent this year.

The four-day auction has suffered decreases in each of its first three sessions.

Ken and Sarah Ramsey purchased Wednesday's session-topper, a bay son on the Meadowlake mare Entre Nous. The dam is a half-sister to the stakes-placed runner On Safari. Cutting Edge Equine, agent, consigned the session-topper.

The auction is to continue through Thursday in Ocala, Fla., at the OBS pavilion.
