OBS January: Hill Croome fastest in under-tack show

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. January mixed sale’s optional under-tack show for its horses of racing age finished with Hill Croome atop the standings, covering three furlongs in :33 4/5 seconds.

The 3-year-old son of American Lion breezed Monday over the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface.

Hill Croome is an unraced colt out of the stakes-placed Gold Legend mare Sauternes, whose two foals to race are both winners. He is from the family of Grade 3-placed Prorunner and stakes winners Princess Turandot, Steady Rollin, Veiled Look, and Silken Delight.

Niall Brennan consigns the Hill Croome, as agent. The colt was bred in Kentucky by Brian Russell Cleveland.

Hill Croome had previously been training at Nelson Jones Farms and Training Center in Ocala, Fla., where he most recently breezed four furlongs in :49 1/5 on Jan. 15.

This will be Hill Croome’s third time through the auction ring, finishing under his reserve for $10,000 at the 2015 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky July yearling sale, then getting bought back once again for $20,000 at last year’s OBS spring sale of 2-year-olds in training.

The OBS January sale takes place Jan. 25-26, beginning each day at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. The opening session will feature a consignor-select portion, as well as the horses of racing age offerings. An open session will close the sale the following day.
