DEL MAR, Calif. - The upset win by Magical Fantasy ($87) in Saturday’s Del Mar Oaks has led to a carryover of $206,263 for Sunday’s pick six at Del Mar. The pick six covers the fourth through ninth races on a nine-race program that begins at 2 p.m., Pacific. There are no early scratches on Sunday’s program. The pick six races feature four sprints on the synthetic main track and two one-mile races on turf. The feature race is the $100,000 Solana Beach Handicap for statebred females at a mile on turf. Lethal Heat is the 3-1 morning-line favorite, but she was third in Saturday’s Del Mar Oaks and is scheduled to be scratched. Her absence will leave the race more wide-open. There will be support for Tutta Bella, who won the Fran’s Valentine Stakes at Hollywood Park in April, and Silver Z, a front-runner who has been running in graded stakes in recent starts. Interestingly, Coolerator, the morning-line favorite in the last race, will race without shoes. The California Horse Racing Board approved a rule change allowing for horses to race without shoes at a meeting last month. There have been only a few instances of horses racing without shoes since the rule was implemented.
