Oaklawn Park, Penn National, Charles Town cancel Thursday cards

Email

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Oaklawn Park has canceled Thursday's card due to freezing temperatures. The decision comes on the heels of the track losing its final six races Sunday because of winter weather. It was 20 degrees in Hot Springs Thursday morning, with the high expected to be 28.

Oaklawn track maintenance crews worked the surface overnight Wednesday and will continue to do so in an attempt to keep the track viable for the weekend, when temperatures are expected to hit the 40s.

Thursday's program is the first full card lost this meet. The track will remain open for simulcasting and gaming.

Penn National Race Course called off its Thursday night program because of severe winter weather. It's the second straight program and the ninth since the beginning of 2014 that the central Pennsylvania track has lost due to poor weather. Live racing is scheduled to resume Friday with first post at 6 p.m. Eastern.

Charles Town Races also canceled its Thursday night program. The track will remain open for simulcasting with the next day of live racing scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m.
