HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Cosmo Girl shot to the lead at the start of the $75,000 Carousel at Oaklawn Park and kept going for a 2 3/4-length win over Gleaming in the six-furlong race for fillies and mares. It was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third to Denali Glitter.

Cosmo Girl ($13) broke on top from the rail and was up by 1 1/2 lengths through an opening quarter in 21.83 seconds. She remained clear through a half-mile in 45.42 before winning on a track rated sloppy in 1:10.52.

“Nice race . . . this was one of her best,” said Joe Petalino, who trains Cosmo Girl for Baccari Racing Stable.

Bryan McNeil was aboard Cosmo Girl, who registered her first career stakes win in the Carousel.

Petalino said the filly could run next in the $50,000 Irving Distaff, a 7 1/2-furlong turf race at Lone Star Park on April 23.

“She likes that turf course,” he said.
