Jan's Perfect Star scores as the heavy favorite under Alex Birzer in the Arkansas Breeders' for statebred fillies and mares.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Jan’s Perfect Star improved her career record to 2 for 2 on Sunday, when she cruised to a 3 3/4-length win over Bag the Storm in the $60,000 Arkansas Breeders’ at Oaklawn Park. It was another six lengths back in third to Indian Bluff.

Jan’s Perfect Star opened up as the 1-5 favorite in the race restricted to Arkansas-bred fillies and mares  off a 12-length debut win for which she earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 89. She was making both her stakes and two-turn debut Sunday, and easily moved to the lead into the first turn of the 1 1/16-mile race. Jan’s Perfect Star was up by about two lengths through an opening quarter in 23.42 seconds, then increased her advantage while covering a half-mile in 47.90.

Jan’s Perfect Star ($3) proceeded to separate herself from her rivals on the final turn, racing clear by nine lengths through six furlongs in 1:14.91. In the stretch, Bag the Storm made a run at the leader, but the finish was never in doubt with Jan’s Perfect Star winning in 1:51.33 on a track rated good. Alex Birzer was aboard for trainer Randy Morse.

Jan’s Perfect Star is a 4-year-old daughter of Imperialism. She was making her first start for owner Dave Clark of Little Rock, Ark., who privately purchased the filly following her maiden special weight win, which came at Oaklawn on Feb. 7.

I'm sorry, but is going to be tough for the owners in recoup their money on this filly if they keep her running long.
