Oaklawn: Inquiry absolves Miss City Halo

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Miss City Halo withstood an inquiry to win the $50,000 Martha Washington Stakes* by 1 1/4 lengths over favorite Gilded Wings before a holiday crowd of 27,106 at Oaklawn Park. It was a nose back in third to For Rubies.

The stretch run of the six-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies was the cause of the inquiry after Gilded Wings found herself in tight between Miss City Halo and For Rubies. There was no change to the result of the race, and Miss City Halo returned $23. It was the first stakes win for Miss City Halo, who is trained by Mark Hubley. She races for Kate Rich Stables and Lawrence Doyle.

Miss City Halo raced closest to pacesetter French Lass, who ran the opening four furlongs in 45.80 seconds. The eventual winner took over into the stretch, and went on to cover the distance over a fast track in 1:11.20. She earned $30,000 for the win, which improved her record to two wins from seven starts and earnings of $75,640.
