Oaklawn: Havre de Grace shares high weight for Apple Blossom

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Havre de Grace, Switch, and Life At Ten have been co-highweighted at 119 pounds for the Grade 1, $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park on Friday, April 15. Blind Luck, the champion 3-year-old filly of 2010, is weighted at 118.

The weights for the Apple Blossom were released Saturday afternoon. Havre de Grace and Switch are both scheduled to start in the race, while Life At Ten is also entered in an allowance at Gulfstream Park on Sunday.

The Apple Blossom has been returned to both handicap status and its traditional distance of 1 1/16 miles this year after being run as a 1 1/8-mile stakes in 2010 as part of an attempt to bring Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta together for what would have been their first matchup.

The prospective field for this year's Apple Blossom, with weights, is Havre de Grace, 119; Switch, 119; Blind Luck, 118; Miss Match, 116; Decelerator, 113; and Absinthe Minded, 112. Possibles include Satans Quick Chick, 113, and Sarah's Song, 111.

Entries for the Apple Blossom will be taken on Tuesday.

Havre de Grace will come into the race off a 3 1/2-length win over Blind Luck in the Grade 3, $150,000 Azeri at Oaklawn on March 19. Ramon Dominguez has the mount for trainer Larry Jones. Garrett Gomez is scheduled to ride Blind Luck for trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Switch last raced in the Grade 1 Santa Margarita at Santa Anita, and finished second, a head behind winner Miss Match. Joel Rosario will ride Switch in the Apple Blossom, while Calvin Borel is to be aboard Miss Match.
