Email

There were two winners of the $50,000 Spring Fever Stakes at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, after Ginger Bay and Classify hit the wire together before a crowd of 20,379. Fast Deal finished 2 3/4 lengths back in third, while the 4-5 favorite, Akronism, was another four lengths back in fourth.

Ginger Bay ($4) moved to the lead soon after the start of the 5 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares and ran the opening quarter-mile in 22.06 seconds while under pressure from Fast Deal. Classify ($8.20) stalked those rivals, with Ginger Bay continuing to maintain her lead through a half-mile in 45.17 seconds. Classify closed with determination in the stretch, with she and Ginger Bay jointly covering the distance on a fast track in 1:03.64.

Eddie Razo Jr. rode Ginger Bay for Melnyk Racing Stable and trainer Tony Reinstedler. Luis Quinonez was aboard Classify for Winchell Thoroughbreds and trainer Steve Asmussen.
