Oaklawn cancels Wednesday card

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Oaklawn Park officials on Tuesday canceled the track's live program for Wednesday because of a winter storm that moved into the area overnight. A decision on whether the track will race Thursday was to be made Wednesday afternoon.

The cancellation is the fifth of the meet, which was pushed back a week because of inclement weather.

"We see no way for the racing strip to be suitable for racing on Wednesday," said Eric Jackson, Oaklawn's general manager. "This has been such an unusual winter, that we have to take each day as it comes."

There are no plans to make up the lost Wednesday program, but some of the races that were scheduled could be brought back on future cards as has been the policy with previous cancellations this meet.

* Beulah Park in Grove City, Ohio, canceled the last three races on Tuesday's eight-race program because of a thawing and uneven racing surface. Beulah has completed just two of its last eight scheduled racing programs, canceling three entire cards along and shortening three others because of track conditions.
