Oaklawn cancels Saturday card

Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., has canceled live racing for Saturday, according to track spokeswoman Jennifer Hoyt. It is the sixth weather-related cancellation of the meet that opened in January.

Oaklawn lost Friday's card due to freezing temperatures. The weather also cost the track its opening weekend in January and its holiday Monday program Feb. 16.

The track, which races through April, was originally scheduled to race 57 dates in 2015.

Its freezing at Aqueduct, Parx, Penn National, Hawthorne, Laurel, and Turfway and they didn't cancel their cards. Poor track maintenance at Oaklawn or maybe they just care about their casinos.

Because they are located in Hot Springs National Park , They can not use chemicals on the track due to the underground springs

They dont have a casino at Oaklawn Park. They have instant racing, which is a simulated horse racing video machine to gamble on but they are only playable during live racing. Due to overnight freezing and unsafe roadways an advisory was issued to stay off roads except for emergencies and a state of emergency was declared for the state.

Have you been to Oaklawn in the last 5 years? They have slot machines and video poker. They did have the simulated horse racing years ago. There were bad road conditions Wednesday, but yesterday and today the roads are fine. The bad road conditions are in North West Arkansas. I went to the track years ago in the snow and freezing weather, but the last few years with the arrival of the Casino games, they cancel every time there is cold weather.

Thanks for the information concerning the slots. I had not realized they added slots and table games. I do know they used to cancel many days before they even had the instant racing machines due to winter weather and that is why they now start the meet later than they used to. I honestly do not know why they when they do considering the worst winter weather down in that area is in February. It does look like winter is hanging around longer lately though. At least they are adding in make up days unlike other tracks with casinos. Good luck with any wagers you make.
