Oaklawn cancels Friday card

Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, Ark., canceled Friday's nine-race card after sleet and freezing rain hit the area. Management made the announcement about 9:15 a.m. Central, with temperatures at the track dropping to 25 degrees.

"We're canceling due to winter weather conditions that hit quickly this morning," Oaklawn spokesman Terry Wallace said.

Wallace said Oaklawn anticipates racing Saturday and Sunday, as temperatures are forecast to be in the 50s. He said the track will try to bring back the races that were lost as quickly as possible. Wallace said Oaklawn would be open for simulcasting and gaming on Friday.

Oaklawn opened its 54-date meet Jan. 18. The last time Oaklawn had to cancel racing because of the weather was Feb. 1-4 last year.

* There will be a pick-six carryover of $21,683 for Saturday.
