Oaklawn: Another World gets up to win Redbud

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Another World came four wide into the stretch and put in a determined bid to catch Remit and a resurging Cascabella on the wire and win the $100,000 Redbud at Oaklawn Park on Thursday. Another World proved a head better than Remit, who finished a half-length in front of third-place finisher Cascabella.

The Redbud was one of two stakes on the card, with the $75,000 Carousel won by Beat the Blues ($10.60). The races were part of Oaklawn's annual Racing Festival of the South, which features nine stakes worth $2.8 million over the final four dates of the meet that closes Saturday.

Another World ($7.60) raced about 10 lengths behind Cascabella, who opened up on the field in the first turn and reeled off fractions of 23.76 seconds for the opening quarter, 47.03 for the half-mile, and 1:12.13 for six furlongs. Another World rallied in the lane to cover the 1 1/16 miles on a track rated fast in 1:45.47.

"She just kept digging in," said winning rider Cliff Berry, who on Wednesday at Oaklawn achieved the 4,000th win of his career aboard Orchard House.

The Redbud was 4,001. Of Berry's wins, 3,891 have been aboard Thoroughbreds.

Donnie Von Hemel trains Another World for her breeder, Pin Oak Stable.

Tiz Miz Sue and Holy Heavens were scratched from the Redbud. Both horses are entered here Friday in the Grade 1, $500,000 Apple Blossom Handicap.
