Oaklawn: All About Allie takes Downthedustyroad for third time
Email
HOT SPRINGS, Ark.- All About Allie won the $60,000 Downthedustyroad for the third consecutive year at Oaklawn on Saturday, when she shuttled clear by 2 3/4 lengths over Kathleen. It was another length back in third to Hatter Nu Nu.
The Downthedustyroad is a six-furlong race restricted to fillies and mares bred in Arkansas.
All About Allie ($3.60) settled in third down the backside, as Bikini Bella and Hatter Nu Nu dueled through fractions of 23.10 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.57 for the half-mile. All About Allie launched her bid on the final turn, overtook the leaders in the stretch, and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:13.32.
“I was hoping the two speed horses would hook up and they did,” said Cliff Berry, who rode the winner for trainer David Whited.
All About Allie has now won three of the four runnings of the Downthedustyroad, her first score coming in 2010 at the age of 3. She is a 5-year-old mare by Storm and a Half and races for her breeders, Sanders Brothers.
Attendance on track was 14,059.

MONCLOVA galloped out strongly after closing belatedly in her second trip postward May 26, from which the runner-up exited to graduate with a 68 Beyer. The daughter of Queen's Plate winner Niigon is bred to run long, and can break through with the stretchout from six and a half furlongs to a mile and a sixteenth. BE MIND PHIL is returning on short rest off a closing second in her debut, going a mile around one turn on the grass. She has a blend of speed and stamina in her pedigree.
