Oak Hall draws interesting group

Email

Louisiana Legends Night in late June and last weekend's Cajun Jockey Challenge are tough acts to follow, but the participants in Saturday's inaugural running of the $50,000 Oak Hall Stakes are going to give it their best shot.

A total of eight sprinters passed the entry box Wednesday morning for the seven-furlong stakes.

Included in the intriguing cast is Cajole, last seen in high-dollar claiming company at Arlington Park; Magic Sunset, second in the Junius Delahoussaye Memorial here on June 30 and who is also entered in the $100,000 Cajun Stakes at Louisiana Downs Saturday; Marion's Man who carried Cajun Jockey Challenge winner Calvin Borel to a thrilling victory last Friday night; and the entry of Watchem Smokey and Follow the Storm.

* Evangeline Downs has been selected to host the 2008 Quarter Horse Challenge Championships and Racing Conference.

The Challenge Championships brings together winners of selected races from across the country for the industry's richest day of racing. The Quarter Horse season here follows the Thoroughbred meeting, which traditionally concludes on Labor Day.

* The Louisiana Thoroughbred Breeders' summer mixed sale is slated for Aug. 5 in the Blackham Coliseum in Lafayette, La. The sale will include yearlings, 2-year-olds, horses of racing age, and broodmares. The sale gets under way at 10 a.m.- Jeff Taylor
