N.Y.'s OTB to take Cup bet

NEW YORK - New York City Off-Track Betting Corporation has reached an agreement to take bets on the remaining Breeders' Cup future wagers, officials for NYCOTB and the Breeders' Cup said Wednesday.

The city's OTB company had declined to take bets on the Breeders' Cup future wagers earlier this year, citing lack of interest from their customers. As a result, New York horseplayers had to travel to Aqueduct, Belmont, or Saratoga to place future bets, or use Internet or telephone accounts.

NYCOTB was one of the few bet-takers in the United States that did not take the wagers, which debuted this year over the Fourth of July weekend when bets were offered on the Classic, Sprint, and Distaff. Breeders' Cup later offered future betting on the Turf, Mile, and Filly and Mare Turf, but NYCOTB sat that out as well.

Breeders' Cup plans to offer future wagering on the Classic, Sprint, and Distaff for a second time over the Labor Day weekend. Future bets on the Juvenile and Juvenile Fillies will be offered Sept. 20-22.
