NYRA scraps filly bonus

Email

After just one year, the New York Racing Association scrapped the $2 million bonus that linked the Mother Goose, Coaching Club American Oaks, and Alabama because of budgetary concerns. Those races, dubbed the Triple Tiara by NYRA, are Grade 1 races for 3-year-old fillies.

"Budget cuts didn't allow us to move forward this year with the Triple Tiara," said Bill Nader, a senior vice president at NYRA.

Last year, the bonus went unclaimed after Spoken Fur won the Mother Goose and CCA Oaks but finished third in the Alabama. Before the bonus was instituted, the Triple Tiara comprised the Acorn, Mother Goose, and CCA Oaks. With the introduction of the bonus, the Alabama replaced the Acorn in the series.
