N.Y. breeders honor statebred champions


The New York Thoroughbred Breeders honored statebred divisional champions on Monday at the group's annual awards banquet in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The honorees, as determined by votes form the New York Turf Writers, were Funny Cide, horse of the decade; Haynesfield, horse of the year and 3-year-old male; Banrock, older male and turf male; Canadian Ballet, older female, turf female, and female sprinter; Ibboyee, juvenile male; Franny Freud, juvenile filly; Don't Forget Gil, 3-year-old filly; Driven By Success, male sprinter; Sunshine Numbers, steeplechaser; and Nothing Special, broodmare of the year.

Human honorees were Linda Rice, trainer of the year; Ramon Dominguez, jockey of the year; and Anthony Grey, breeder of the year.

The NYTB also honored the runners A Shin Forward, Cannonball, and Oiseau de Feu for international achievements.
