The Nutz tops State Fair Board

The Nutz returns to stakes action in search of his fifth win this year when he heads a field of 10 going a mile and 70 yards in the $17,500 State Fair Board Stakes at Lincoln.

The Nutz made his stakes debut in April at Fonner Park when he upset the $75,000 Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes over sloppy going in just his fifth career start. He then was shipped up to Canterbury Park where he tried the turf against top-level allowance company without success. The Nutz returned here and narrowly took a mid-level allowance on June 22 sprinting and should welcome the stretch back out in distance. Don Herber will ride from post 1.

First Class Brass won a division of this race last year but is still seeking his first win of the year. He was a closing second to crack sprinter Out Gamble in the President's Cup here June 15 in his last start and appears to be rounding back into top form for trainer Kelli Martinez.

Booming Along makes a jump up to stakes company but should be the one the catch. He comes out of a strong front-running win over $20,000 claiming company going a mile in his last start on June 21 and has won three straight at the meet.
