The Nutz stays perfect at Fonner

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - The Nutz ran his record to a perfect 4 for 4 at Fonner Park with his one-length win in Saturday's $25,000 Budweiser-Tondi Stakes.

The Nutz won all three of his starts here last year, capped off by a win in the $75,000 Bosselman/Gus Fonner Stakes. In his seasonal debut on Saturday, he rallied from off the pace with a good move in the stretch to run down Tiger Lake, covering the six furlongs in 1:12.60 over a fast track. He returned $6.40 as the second choice in the field of 10 with Damon Leeds riding. The win boosted his career mark to 6-1-0 from 8 starts and earnings of $98,375 for trainer S.L. Hall.

* In the co-featured Bachman Stakes for 3-year-olds, Turkey Hunter ($12.60) won his second straight race here with a half-length win over 6-5 favorite Tidal Storm for trainer Joe Thomas. He covered the four furlongs in 45.60 seconds with Armando Martinez aboard.
