Nut N Better all but unbeatable against Iowa-breds

ALTOONA, Iowa - Defending champion Nut N Better and Sumthintotalkabout lead a small but select field of Iowa-bred fillies and mares in the six-furlong, $60,000-added Mamie Eisenhower Stakes on Sunday afternoon at Prairie Meadows.

Nut N Better enters the Eisenhower off a come-from-behind 1 1/2-length victory in the Hoist the Flag Stakes at Canterbury on June 9. In her last start here she finished third, beaten only 1 1/2 lengths, against open company in the $50,000 Prairie Rose Stakes on May 12.

The 4-year-old Nut N Better has won 11 of her 19 career starts for trainer Fred Falldorf with all of her losses coming against open company. Nut N Better has earnings of $417,740 for her owner-breeders Shady Bend Thoroughbreds. Regular rider Kelly Murray has the call.

Sumthintotalkabout is also a talented 4-year-old filly. In her most recent start, she scored in gate-to-wire fashion by a widening 4 3/4 lengths against state-bred allowance company here May 29 while covering the six furlongs in 1:10.32. Sumthintotalkabout has won 6 of 11 career starts good for over $154,000 in earnings for owner Equal Justice Acres LLC. Cindy Noll has a return call.

In their only matchup in the past two seasons Nut N Better rallied to score by a head over the pacesetting Sumthintotalkabout in a six-furlong allowance here opening night of the meet.

Toss in Trisha Runs, who has won 5 of her 7 career starts with her only losses coming at the hands of Nut N Better, and Lady Tamworth, the richest Iowa-bred mare with over $484,000 in career earnings, and it's a race with many possibilities.
