Numbers point out Victim of Love

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - If his Beyer Speed Figures are any indication, Victim of Love will be very tough to beat in the eighth race at Hastings Saturday, a $75,000 optional race for older horses going 6 1/2 furlongs.

Trained by Dave Milburn, Victim of Love has posted five straight Beyer Figures in the mid- to high 90s. Of the five horses Victim of Love will be running against, only Shacane and Silver Donn have ever earned a Beyer Figure of over 90.

Victim of Love has won 4 of his last 5 starts and he's coming off of a win in a $25,000 optional race at Golden Gate June 9. Although he's never raced at Hastings, he has won two races at Fairplex Park, which like Hastings is a five-furlong track.

"One of the reasons we claimed him was because we were told he was a 'hoop around a barrel' on a five-furlong track," said Milburn.

Milburn and Donald Moldoon claimed Victim of Love out of a win at Santa Anita for $25,000 April 19.

Victim of Love has excellent early speed and will likely be put right on the lead by Anderson Ward.

Mighty Cahill, who is trained by Harold Barroby, looks like the main threat. He finished an unlucky third in an allowance race June 16. He was forced to steady when Bound to Be M V P crossed over and cut him off in the run through the stretch the first time. Mighty Cahill finished strongly to lose by a half-length. This will also be the first time he's ever been entered for a price.
