Numbers down at Pleasanton sale

EmailPrices fell at Tuesday's Northern California yearling sale at Pleasanton, Calif., which was topped by a Siberian Summer colt that sold for $40,000.

At the one-day sale, 154 horses sold for a total of $899,200, down 34 percent from the 2006 sale. The average price of $5,839 was down 29 percent. The median held at $4,000.

Tuesday's sale-topper was consigned by Jack and Barb Hatch's Green Acre Stable, agent for breeder Lercari Thoroughbreds, and purchased by Richard Franco of Modesto, Calif. The colt is out of a Hansel mare, La Charita.

Three other horses sold for $28,000 or more. The sale-topping filly, by Royal Cat, was purchased for $32,000 by Sierra Sunset from the consignment of Old English Rancho, agent for SLU, Inc. The filly is a half-sister to Run Brother Ron, a two-time stakes winner this year at 2.
