Nubin Ridge made a rare start around two turns in Saturday night’s $100,000 Gold Cup at Delta Downs and rallied for a half-length win over Sir Genghis. It was another three-quarters of a length back to favorite Underpressure in third. The Gold Cup was a one-mile race for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana. It is expected to produce starters for the Louisiana Champions Day program at Fair Grounds. Nubin Ridge ($14.20) was stretching out to two turns off an allowance-sprint win and was content to stalk the pace as Sir Genghis set fractions of 23.88 seconds for the opening quarter, 48.47 for the half-mile, and 1:13.01 for six furlongs. Nubin Ridge overtook that one in the later stages and covered the distance on a fast track in 1:39.65. Ashley Broussard was aboard for trainer Alan Klanfer. Nubin Ridge earned $60,000 for the victory, his 10th from 60 starts. He has earned $573,015. Nubin Ridge, a 7-year-old gelding by Gold Tribute, launched his career in New York. He races for Circle H Farms.
