NTRA to sell Smarty Jones goods

Roy and Patricia Chapman, the owners of Smarty Jones, have given licensing and merchandising rights to their undefeated horse to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association.

The rights, which will allow the NTRA to produce using Smarty Jones's name and likeness, are non-exclusive, the NTRA said. The merchandise was available on Friday from the NTRA's website and also at the official website for Smarty Jones, www.teamsmartyjones.com.

Smarty Jones has won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes and is scheduled to run next in the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of racing's Triple Crown, on June 5. Along the way, he has become one of the most popular horses to race in a decade.

The NTRA has reached licensing agreements with the owners of several other notable horses, including Silver Charm, Real Quiet, and Funny Cide. The horses were all potential Triple Crown winners before losing the Belmont Stakes.
