Not Bourbon takes Plate Trial

Not Bourbon ($9.90) won Sunday's $150,800 Plate Trial Stakes at Woodbine. Harlem Rocker, the 1-5 favorite, could only manage fourth in the nine-furlong prep for the June 22 Queen's Plate.

In his first start around two turns, Not Bourbon stalked the pace under Jono Jones as Pewter set soft fractions of 24.18 seconds and 48.67. Sebastian's Song made an early move on the far turn to take control until the top of the stretch, where he was joined on the lead by Not Bourbon.

Not Bourbon hit the front nearing the eighth pole, before opening up a clear lead. Solitaire, a maiden based at Saratoga, closed strongly to finish a neck back, while Sebastian's Song faded to third.

Harlem Rocker raced wide and finished 5 3/4 lengths back in the seven-horse field of Canadian-bred 3-year-olds.

"The only excuse I can give right now is that he didn't like the Polytrack," said Eibar Coa, who rode the previously unbeaten Harlem Rocker.

Not Bourbon, trained by Roger Attfield, earned $90,000 for owner/breeder Charles Fipke. He covered the distance in 1:49.73, which was just .18 of a second off the Polytrack record.
