Queen's Plate winner Not Bourbon returns from a two-month layoff to win Woodbine's Overskate.P Not Bourbon, this year's Queen's Plate winner, crushed older Ontario-sired opposition off a two-month layoff at Woodbine in the $125,000 Overskate Stakes. Grazettes Landing set a slow opening quarter of 24.02 seconds in the seven-furlong sprint, but Not Bourbon moved up along the inside to assume command through a half in 46.75. Not Bourbon drew off through the stretch and prevailed by 4 1/2 lengths, in a time of 1:21.78. The Overskate was Not Bourbon's first start following throat surgery. Yummy With Butter rallied outside for second, and Grazettes Landing wound up third in the five-horse field. "He relaxed perfectly through the whole race," said Jono Jones, who rode Not Bourbon for trainer Roger Attfield. "When I asked him to go, it was just a matter how far he was going to win by." Not Bourbon ($4.60) banked $75,000 for owner/breeder Charles Fipke. - Ron Gierkink
