Northlands: Rubyintheruff heads one-two finish for stable in Wild Rose Handicap

Lightly raced Rubyintheruff easily held off her stablemate Alywyn  to win the $50,000 Wild Rose Handicap for fillies and mares at Northlands Park on Sunday.  She paid $6.10 as the second choice in the wagering.

Breaking sharply under apprentice jockey Scott Williams, Rubyintheruff dueled with the 3-5 favorite Notoriously during the early stages of the six-furlong race. She started to pull away from the field after a quick half-mile in  45.80 seconds and was never threatened after taking a four-length lead into the stretch. Alywyn made strong late move to get within 2 1/4 lengths at the finish.  Two Horn Unicorn finished a non-threatening third. Notoriously tired to finish fourth in the five-horse field.

A 4-year-old California-bred,  Rubyinthefuff was making just the fourth start of her career.  She is trained by Amber Meyaard.

“We took our time with her and it has been worth the wait,” said Meyaard. “She is legit.”

The final time was 1:10.60.
