Northlands Park: Meyaard-trained horses sweep top honors in Alberta for 2010

As expected, No Hesitation was named the 2010 horse of the year in Alberta at the Night of Champions dinner held at Northlands Park on Saturday night.

Trained by Jim Meyaard, No Hesitation dominated the local 3-year-old division. He won all five of his starts at Northlands in 2010, including the Grade 3 Canadian Derby with usual rider Rico Walcott aboard.  He is owned by Barbara Side.

Meyaard also trains Alywyn, who was voted the top older filly or mare. Racing for Side Management Ltd. Alywyn won four races ,including the City of Edmonton Handicap and Duchess of York.

Mr. Shadar,  trained by Rick Hedge, was named the champion sprinter and Alberta-bred horse of the year.

Other divisional honors went to Double Shuffle , older horse; Notoriously, 3-year-old filly; Bond James Bond , 2-year-old colt or gelding; Embellished , 2-year-old filly; It’s Good To Be Me , claiming horse.

Robertino Diodoro was recognized as the leading trainer and Anthony Salgado, the leading jockey.

Jack and Linda Johnson were honored as the horse persons of the year. Theresa Seally received the backstretch appreciation award.
