Northlands: My Lucky Thirteen capitalizes on fast pace

Email

My Lucky Thirteen  had a perfect trip from just off a hotly contested pace to win the colts and geldings division of the $50,000 Three-  and Four-Year-Old Sales Stakes at Northlands Park on Saturday.

With Heribert Martinez aboard, My Lucky Thirteen ($4.50) broke sharply in the one-mile feature and was eased into a stalking position behind So Good Lucky and Hollywood Dreams who battled it out through honest early fractions of 24.40 and 48.20 seconds.  He took control of the race at the top of the stretch and was never threatened by Maximus Potential, who made a late move to finish second. So Good Lucky held on to finish third.

The final time was 1:39.60.

Trained by Twylla Bensmiller, My Lucky Thirteen earned $30,000 for his owners Buddy Bensmiller and Gary Etherington.

Regal Tigereyes had a similar trip winning the fillies division with Stephen Heiler aboard. She paid $9.70 for her win over Trishas Even and Topasannah.

The Kirsty Luft-Nault-trained Regal Tigereyes posted a final time of 1:40.20. She is owned by Rocky Ridge Racing Stable.
