Northlands: Legend Fortynine much the best in Canadian Juvenile

Email

Heavily favored Legend Fortynine easily won the $50,000 Canadian Juvenile by 3 1/2 lengths at Northlands Park on Saturday.

With leading rider Rico Walcott aboard, Legend Fortynine ($3) looked very comfortable while pushing King Koag through a half-mile in 49.13 seconds in the one-mile race for 2-year-ods. He started to take control after six furlongs in 1:14.17 and opened up a clear lead on the stretch turn. He took a four-length lead into the stretch and was never threatened by  Mr.Know It All, who finished second. Mr. Know It All stalked the pace from along the rail before making a late move while going three-wide on the stretch turn. Go Max made a run at Legend Fortynine going into the stretch turn but hung and finished third.

Legend Fortynine is trained by leading trainer Dale Saunders.

“It was my first time riding him and Dale had him ready for a big effort,” said Walcott. “He was strong the whole way.”

The final time was 1:40.45.
