Northlands: Hollywood Dreams gets a class break in Saturday feature

Email

Hollywood Dreams ran into a couple of tough horses in his two starts in California last winter and he will certainly appreciate being back at Northlands Park, where he has compiled a 4-1-1- record from 7 starts. He looks like the one to beat in a $40,000 optional claiming race for 3-year-olds and up that will serve as Saturday’s feature. The six-furlong sprint drew a solid field of seven older horses and goes as the eighth race.

Trained by Dean Martiniuk, Hollywood Dreams has been a solid sprinter at Northlands. His only loss in five sprints in Edmonton came in a first-level allowance race last July 6, and he had an excuse as he went wide around both turns while dueling with the winner, Points Alert. He was also coming off a layoff after going unplaced in a $75,000 optional race at Hastings in April. Prior to shipping to California he won the $50,000 Red Dial Express for Alberta-breds going 6 1/2 furlongs before tiring in the 1 1/16-mile 3- & 4-year-old Sales Stakes.

In his last start, which came in a $62,500 optional race at Golden Gate Feb. 19, Hollywood Dreams ran into a very tough Italian Rules. After winning that race, Italian Rules came right back to win an $80,000 optional race at Santa Anita with a 101 Beyer Speed Figure. Hollywood Dreams was also up against it when he ran in a $62,500 optional race on the downhill turf course at Santa Anita in his first start this year Jan. 12. The winner, Carbonite, won an allowance race at Santa Anita in his next start and he was good enough to finish a close fourth in the Grade 1 Bing Crosby at Del Mar last August.

My Lucky Thirteen beat Hollywood Dreams in the 3- & 4-year-old Sales Stakes last year and hasn’t raced since October. He can fire fresh, as evidenced by his easy win in a second-level allowance race when he came back from a long layoff last July 6. My Lucky Thirteen followed up his four-length win with another win in a one-mile $40,000 optional race July 29.

Trained by Twylla Bensmiller, My Lucky Thirteen may have tipped his hand with a bullet five-furlong move in 1:01.60 May 18.

Tiny Giant, third behind Hollywood Dreams after setting the pace in the Red Dial Express, will be the one they have to catch. Trained by Joan Petrowski, Tiny Giant is coming off a second-place finish in a 3 1/2-furlong $40,000 optional race May 12.
